Kevin: Day 1939

Day 1939. Well, that's three marathons down. This one was a little bit different though, as it was unplanned and spontaneous. It happened Saturday. I was probably somewhere around 10 miles in on day 1937 when that thought began creeping into my mind. "Hey man, you could run a marathon today." I can't even begin to explain how much back and forth went on in my mind from that point on. But I did it, and it felt good.

I ran to the Lincoln Memorial, to the GW Parkway, around Theodore Roosevelt Island, into Georgetown, back to the Lincoln Memorial, over to Hains Point for a loop, back to the Lincoln Memorial, back to the GW Parkway, back to Theodore Roosevelt Island, and back through Georgetown. It was a challenge for sure, but it wasn't that hard. Maybe it was. I don't know. It's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that I did it. And without pushing for time, I completed the marathon in somewhere around 3:40.

As you know, if you're one of my few beloved readers, I am constantly striving to reach new levels. This run in-particular helped bolster the growing notion in my mind that I am capable of achieving a little bit more than the average joe in the realm of endurance endeavors. For the duration of the 27 or so miles of Saturday's run, I did not hydrate or eat. I just ran it straight. Stupid? Yes. I did scarf down a couple jumbo slices and a protein shake immediately afterwards.

Then on Sunday, I ran another 14 miles. It's strange. It's really strange that I felt fine for the most part on Sunday and Monday. When you start breaking down barriers like this, it's hard to find precedent. There aren't many playbooks out there for this type of distance training. I hope I'm not overdoing it. Time will tell.

Today was cold... Really cold. I woke up late and ran 2 miles.
