Streak on

Running...

 1.5 miles   Everyday For28Years

Zach Baker and Kevin Rapp met at The University of South Carolina. In 2008, a couple years after graduation they reunited on a September Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C. Kevin mentioned he had recently watched an episode of the HBO series, "Hard Knocks", containing a small segment on Jim Garrett. JG had ran at least 1 mile everyday for 28 years. Inspired, Kevin was 5 days into his streak . Zach was not an avid runner; yet dually motivated, asked Kevin if he would like a partner in his peculiar pursuit. Zach has since retired, but Kevin streaks on; over a decade later.

Zach: Day 31 of 10, 220 (Friday Recap)

  Happy Yom Kippur Dan Wain!

Man, it feels good to be back.  I bought a PC long before this whole streak started.  In retrospect I kind of wish that I had bought a laptop so I could become more mobile in my blogging.  Until I figure out a way to do that I will be forced to submit recaps.

When I left you on Friday Night I was wearing a black Sam's Corner t-shirt, Nike running shorts, and Aasic sneaks.  I was in somewhat of a hurry so that I could get back and go out with my visitor, James Laura, as soon as the restaurant closed.  My run came on the treadmill and was fairly basic.  I ran 1.6 miles and completed 52 push-ups.

When I got home we headed off to Myrtle Beach for the t-pain concert.  I wasn't familiar with this t-pain, but Jay likes to go to House odf Blues so I obliged.  I was dissapointed to find that t-pain plays no instruments, but instead plays rap sounds over the loud speaker and pauses them to sing the chorus while two guys dance around stage painted like clowns.  C'mon T-pain.  It was kind of like that scene in "Animal House" when they walk in the club after they convinced the roommates of the dead girl to go on a date with them, and all the music stops.

Kevin: Day 36/10220

Happy Birthday Luke Perry!

After appearing in the music video for Twisted Sister's smash hit, " Be Chrool To Your Scuel"  Perry's earliest roles were daytime soaps, "Loving" and "Another World."

Perry's career skyrocketed when he won the role of brooding millionaire's so Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills 90210. And who could forget his inspirational comeback in 2007's HBO series, "John From Cincinnati."

Today in History:

1986: During the Cold War President Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev meet in Reykjavik, Iceland, in an effort to continue discussions about scaling back their missile arsenals in Europe. Both leaders agreed that since the conflict had been dubbed, "the Cold War," Iceland made perfect sense as a meeting place.

Day 36. I thought today's run was going to be a walk in the park, well actually a jog in the park, but not so much. My legs were incredibly tight. Regardless, I had to get the job done, everyone is counting on me. Did I let the faithful down, no. I promise I wont for the next 27 years and 329 days.

Todays run took me down Wisconsin Avenue and through several back streets in Glover Park. I ended up getting lost and finding myself in a communal garden, very weird.

I completed 30 push ups before and 21 push ups after my jog.

I saw 5 dogs today.

Zach: Day 30 of 10,220 (Thursday Re-cap)

Congratulations Tommy Bowden for not crying in public last night!

Sorry I didn't post last night.  I ran late on the mill wearing Nike shorts, cocks shirt and aasics.  I was in a hurry to go watch Wake destroy Clemson's aspirations for an ACC title.  I knocked out 1.6 miles and 52 push-ups.  I'm in kind of a hurry to get tonights run in.  My help didn't show up today so I had to run the restaurant alone.  Its pouring rain and my gym closes at nine.  we have been experiencing serious t-storms so I'm forced to run indoors.  Jay, my guest has been kind enough to watch the store so I can get to the gm before close.  Thanks Jay!  I love you all.

Zach's quote for the day:  He is literally on a tight rope with no net.  (Jerry Jones on Pacman Jones' scuffle with his own bodyguard.  What an idiot.  Go Chargers!)

Kevin: Day 35/10220

Happy Birthday Mario Lopez!

You will always be known as A.C. Slater but you have done so much more! The "AC" stood for, "Albert Clifford" but Slater commented on one episode of the Bell that it stood for, "Abnormally Cruel." In 1996 Lopez treated America once again as Bobby Cruz on Pacific Blue. Mario really dug deep in 1997 as he tackled the role of Greg Louganis, in the made for TV Movie, "Breaking The Surface: the Greg Louganis Story. Thank you Mario!!!!!!!

Today in History:

1971: Sold, dismantled, and moved to the United States, the London Bridge reopens in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

1845: In Annapolis, Maryland, the Naval School, later renamed the Naval Academy, opens with 50 midshipmen students and 7 professors.

Day 35. I woke up around 8:00. My car had a flat tire. I took it to the mechanic and they informed the that the rim was bent too! Hooray! Needless to say, I will be enjoying an evening jog.

I felt great on tonight's jog. Got home from practice around 7:00, tossed some clothes in the wash,  walked outside, established 35 push ups, laughed, ran about 3 miles, established 25 push ups, laughed, and walked inside.

No dogs.

Kevin: Day 34/10220

Happy Birthday John Lennon!

So much that could be said, legend. I recently started reading a biography of John, I had never heard that he spent roughly 4 years of his life barely stepping outside of his New York apartment. His contributions to music and the movement for world peace live on.

Today in history:

1701: The Collegiate School of Connecticut, later renamed Yale University is chartered in Old Saybrook, Connecticut

1888: The Washington Monument opens to the general public

2007: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closes at an all time high.

Day 34. Starting to become routine, guess it's about time. I hit the street about 6:15 this morning. Spanky was still sleeping. Before I left I did 25 push ups. Upon arriving home I did another 25.

There were a decent amount of people out and about this morning. I always find myself wondering what time other people got up. Like today when I saw a sharply dressed man walking down the street. The guy must've taken 30-45 minutes to get ready and who knows how long his commute is! Maybe he sleeps at his office or  showers at the gym... I would like to know but it would be a little odd to stop jogging and say, "Hey man, what time did you get up today?" I would actually enjoy it if a stranger posed such a question, and probably wouldn't even hesitate to answer.

Anyways, day 34 is complete. 10,186 to go. Hail to em'!

I saw no dogs today.

Zach: Day 29 of 10,220

Congratulations Yakefujiang Maimitili for winning the Seoul's second international high-wire championship!!  Maimitili of China walked across the 3/4 mile tightrope that was strung across the Han River in just under 11 minutes to take home the grand prize of $20,000.  Wait to go Yakefujiang!

Today's run was not as pleasant as I'd hoped.  In fact it might have been my least favorite run thus far due to heartburn, bloating, and wedgies.  I felt like an old fat lady.  I started at the tiny church on Pawleys Island wearing my Gamecock Underarmor shirt, Black Nike shorts, Aasic sneaks, and black Nike mid-calf socks.  I began the familiar run toward the south end of the island.  This is usually my night spot, but I wanted to check it out during the day.  I almost immediately began suffering from heartburn which was unfortunate, because it was a great day outside.  I kept running and made the loop around to the ocean side which is always refreshing.  When I reached the 1.5 mile marker I stopped and walked a little ways to gather myself.  I walked north until the South Causeway because I was just not feeling well.  When I reached the Causeway I proceeded to run back to the church.  I covered roughly 2.0 miles today.  When I got back in the car I realized that not every run is going to be great, but this is the first one that has been unpleasant and I've been at it now for almost a month.  Not bad.

My good friend Jay Laura is on fall break from law school and he is coming to the beach to crash with me for a few days.  I always like visitors.  52 push-ups complete.  Time for some zantac.  The streak lives on!

Kevin: Day 33/10220

Happy Birthday Paul Hogan!

Paul is not related to Hulk to my knowledge. In 1986 Hogan privately funded his first film, Crocodile Dundee, along with a group of private investors including much of its cast. The movie became the most succesful Australian film ever. Proving he was no one trick pony, 10 years later in 1996, Hogan starred as, Porter, in the smash hit "Flipper."

Today in History:

1871: The Great Chicago Fire breaks out leaving nearly 100,000 Americans homeless.

1918: In World War I in the Argonne Forest located in France Corporal Alvin C. York of the United States single-handedly kills 25 German soldiers and captures 132, not bad.

Day 33. I woke up to a blaring radio and contemplated staying in bed but relented to the streak. I slept in shorts and a tee shirt, so all that was left to toss on was socks, shoes, and a sweatshirt. I popped a multi-vitamin, washed it down with a cold glass of water, and navigated my way through the basement and out the door. It was certainly chilly again this morning and I only saw 3 or 4 people through the course of my jog. Two of which I'm almost positive spend nearly 24 hours a day outside.

I left work at four yesterday to coach football then returned at seven to help print, "Horny for Zorny" tees. The shirts have taken off in lieu of the recent Skins streak of 4 wins. I was exhausted by the time I got home around 10:45, but couldn't help but stay up and watch the end of, "Deep Blue Sea" with Frank and James.

Then they hooked me again with "Iron Man" which I watched for another 20 minutes or so. Needless to say, I'm a bit tired. Was it worth it? Work, yes. Movies, not so much.

I took it nice and easy on the jog today. I didn't realize, until I sat down to blog, that  I hadn't looked up during my jog to check out the stars. Will have to take a gander on my way to work. When I got home I established 30 push ups in the kitchen. 20 more to go... Happy Wednesday! I established 25 push ups in the ping-pong room before heading out for the day.

I saw no dogs today.
