Kevin: Day 591/10220

Hope the run goes as well as the bike ride... Special thanks to Officer Allen for her exceptional attitude and thorough recount of today's hit & run. We'll get this guy!

Happy Birthday Anthony Salvatore Iadanza "Tony Danza"!

- No need for a description here. We all know Danza. If you don't, sorry. Really, this guy is the cat's meow, the kitten's pur, the creme de la creme! There have been so many golden moments over the years for Tony, and every step of the way one thing has remained constant, a positive attitude. This guy puts the "P" in "Positive". Thank you Tony, and Happy Birthday!

 Day 591. Painful.

This run did not just hurt. I was not sore... I was filled with pain. However, it was a happy run, jam packed with smiles and even chuckles. I'm an adrenaline junky and hadn't got a dose of the good stuff as big as today's since probably my first Bike to the Beach.

The stage. 5:25am wake up. Quick shower. Left over slice of pizza down the hatch. Vitamin cocktail taken with a cold orange Gatorade. Black spandex biking shorts, on. Black long sleeve Under Armour tee, on. Bike to the Beach '09 orange training jersey, zipped. Asics Gel Trabucos, laced. Helmet, strapped. Door locked.

I grabbed a Fuze drink and a banana from the Exxon and began pedaling towards Hains Point, really taking it easy. I made my way into the crosswalk at the corner of 14th & Independence NW. Then, I experienced one of those moments. A moment that seems like an eternity, yet is mere fractions of a second. A flash of yellow appeared to my right. I made eye contact with a forty-something dude behind the wheel of a yellow Porsche like sports car. His facial expression was absent of any emotion. No anger, no puzzlement, nothing. My right knee slammed on the front bumper as the car propelled me into a spinning pirouette the likes of which even Baryshnikov would have been jealous of.

The car stopped. I gathered myself. The car took off.

A police report was filed. A couple pedestrian witnesses, with jaws dropped, came to my aid. I repeatedly assured them I was fine. My buddy Corey showed up and helped out. We gave the officer a B2B wristband and told her to visit the blog. there is a video camera at the intersection. I'd love to get my hands on that footage. It's got to be great. After about half an hour I was home, hobbled up the stairs, changed, grabbed my Ipod and gingerly took off.

My right knee had became quite stiff. You can partially see the swelling in the photo. Each time my leg landed on the pavement a sharp pain made its way through my body. I admit, at first the thought trickled through my brain, "Can I do this?".  My response was not, "Yes, you can", but more so, "You are going to do this". And I did.

I ran to the Newseum. On the turn home Linkin Park popped on the Ipod and my pace began to pick up. A sense of calm came over me as I knew everything was going to be alright.  Before walking in the door I gave Mack a head nod, smiled and slipped him a backwards peace sign. He smiled back and waved.
