Kevin: Day 1880

Day 1880. I ate a lot of pizza last night. Often when I'm planning on going on a big run, as in 10+ miles, I stuff my face the night before. I mean, sure, it's probably good to eat a little extra. But, who eats jumbo slice before midnight? I did. I did last night and I've done it before. I'm not ashamed, but I'm not proud of it either.

We don't all need an occasional pig out. We don't need it. But man, do I love it! Ha, seriously though the diet as a whole has come along way. My new year's resolution was to learn to cook. And, after several months of not making good on that resolution, something changed. One day this past summer I just went for it. I whipped up some steaks and sides. It wasn't anything crazy, but the food was delicious and a light bulb went off in my head. I finally realized that:

1. I can cook.

2. Cooking is fun.

This week was quite the doozy at work. By Thursday night I was exhausted. But that didn't keep me from checking off another box in my cooking adventure. When I told a couple of my store managers what I planned to make while watching the Redskins game I received a thorough dose of mockery. Hey guys, a real bro knows how to bake. And that's just what I did on Thursday night. The cinnamon apple streusel muffins turned out to be a big hit Friday morning at work. I wasn't completely satisfied with the result, but my co-workers were blown away.

Oh yeah, I'm supposed to be writing about running. You enjoyed that though, right? Today was a wonderful day to get a long one in. Perfect long sleeve tee weather. There was a slight breeze and ample sunshine. I ran to the Lincoln Memorial and then quite a ways down the C&O Canal. I need to find some alternate long routes. Maybe next Saturday I'll explore Rock Creek.

The legs felt great. When I arrived home it felt like I hadn't even ran at all. I just felt good. I think I'm back into marathon shape.
